Ep53 – The Ultimate Breeders Roundtable

May 4, 2020 By Kenny Troiano

I asked my Facebook Friends a Question “If I could get breeders like Don Schrider and Danny Feathers on a Roundtable, what would you like to ask them?” I quickly received numerous questions.

Many of these questions came from our members of the Breeders Academy, facebook friends and emails. The questions that were similar, we combined to make one. We tried to get to every question, but were able to get to half. Hopefully we can get to the rest at a later show. These questions are not in any order.

  8. What’s the importance of carriage and leg length?
  9. Where do most breeders fail?
  10. What are the most common defects?
  11. What do you think about hatcheries? Are they good or bad?
  12. Is there such a thing as a pure strain?
  13. Where is the line drawn between breeder and bloodlines?
  14. Why is it important to test the progeny?
  15. I’ve heard you talk about “Recumbent Reciprocal Selection” on past shows, can you talk more about this method?
  16. Can you talk more about your Plus-Minus method?
  17. For hatching – do you prefer using a setting hen or incubator? If so, is there a process to clean the eggs before placing in the incubator?

  19. What do they look for in selecting a brood cock and hen?

The Breeders Academy is designed to help breeders like you to create higher quality strains. Breeding is both an art and a science, and I, Kenny Troiano, am devoted to helping you to increase your knowledge of breeding, advance your skills as a breeder, and to improve the quality and performance of your fowl.

If you are like so many, who are forced to start with hybrid crosses or mongrel flocks (usually a cock from one breeder and a hen from another breeder), this website is for you. No longer will you need to rely on other breeders.

I have a program, called the “Founders Program” that will show you step-by-step how to create a true family of fowl, even if you are starting with an established line or with mixed bloodlines. I also have many specialty courses that complement the Founders Program, and are designed to advance your knowledge of breeding.
